1940s Arctic, a new boss arrives to build a port. They are waiting for him impatiently, they greet him with joy, but the one who arrives is not the one they were expecting. He begins his acquaintance sternly: "Less chatter, we must get down to business!" - proclaims the new government.

The story takes place during WW II in Vojvodina. Two boys, Milan and Rasa, are sent from a partisan squad to a village for the winter. Soon Rasa becomes very ill and Milan goes to a nearby village populated by Germans. Here he finds a job as servant in Jakob Jerih's house. At night, Milan secretly nurses his friend Rasa in a hut in a swamp near the village. Soon, he finds another hiding place in master Jerih's stable. Jerih likes the diligent Milan and he even considers adopting the boy, but Jerih's cousin and assistant is against this idea. Namely because he counts on inheriting master Jerih's estate.

Nandhini, a law student who is caught in a precarious situation, fights for justice for a gruesome crime involving herself.

The idyllic life of a beautiful gypsy girl is shattered when she runs away from a pre-arranged marriage to a member of her tribe. Away from the safety of her people, she encounters bigotry against her kind. A little girl feels sorry for the missing gypsy beauty and searches for a magic root that can cure the wandering gypsy from her wanderlust and bring her home again. Music, dance, ancient gypsy rituals, and colorful European scenery highlight this feature which takes a decidedly jaundiced view of the racial indignities suffered by the heroine.

Family attorney and mom, Lynn Holt, has had to scramble to keep her family and her law firm together, since her husband left her and took most of their joint law practice with him. Although the attorneys are carting plenty of life's baggage, they're all determined to make the most of this unexpected second chance—and make each month's mortgage payment.

The Driscolls learn that the Brown family's homestead has valuable marble deposits under it, and they scheme to acquire the property. They and the Browns all learn that the land title was never filed with the county registration office, and it becomes a break-neck race between them and their henchmen, and the Browns' friend Tom O'Brien to get to the land-office first.
